Slice of Life Sunday: Birds of a feather

This is a longer Slice of Life post than usual because I'm so excited about it.....

I first noticed something was up last week when I discovered large chunks of my hanging begonia at my doorstep, right below the hanging basket. This annoyed me immensely because I've save that plant from death on many occasions and had become proud of its bushy, bright, and colorful appearance recently. Daily, I would look in between the leaves to see what might be in there, and found nothing. I picked up the fallen leaves and branches and went on with my day.

Then Friday as I opened my front door, a startled bird flew out of the hanging basket, squawking at me, and perched atop my patio fence, staring at me, then at the basket, then back at me. Again, I walked over to the basket and peered inside. Although this time I saw a bright white little egg in there, surrounded by the beginnings of a nest. Instantly I was excited that a new little family had moved into my patio. This particular hanging basket hangs right outside my door and each time I come in and out I've been very careful not to make too much noise. Last night I even laid out some things I thought Mama Bird might want to incorporate into her nest- dryer lint and ripped up rug strings courtesy of Barley.

Yesterday she didn't fly away when I opened the door, so stealthily I grabbed my camera and dared to snap a few photos. I think she's feeling safer now!

I took the egg pictures later in the afternoon when she had flown away.
