My first Australian vacation

When my sister moved to Australia in 2006, we all thought it would be for one year. So I just had to go see her sometime in that 12-month span because when else would I ever have an excuse to go? I planned a trip for July 2007 and at the eleventh hour decided to finally buy the digital SLR camera body I had been coveting: the Nikon D80. This was a huge purchase for me during my first year in the real world after college, so I sat on the fence for quite awhile. I was so excited to be able to take it with me to photograph all the beautiful scenery I knew I'd see. But I cut it close with my online order and decided against upgrading the shipping to avoid extra costs. Well, wouldn't you know, I had to leave for the airport at 6:00 pm Friday and UPS delivered it at 7:00 pm Friday? What can brown do for you? Not a whole heck of a lot, apparently. I was SO disappointed. A weeklong vacation in Australia and just a point-and-shoot camera? Please. I was devastated. But I saw the silver lining - that was one less bag I had to transport halfway around the world, and one less thing I would be complaining about carrying everywhere. And who would have guessed my little point-and-shoot did the job just fine.

Well, three years after my sister quit her job, left her dog (with me), and moved out of her apartment to move to another continent with her then boyfriend; and she and Nick are still over there, now married, and living happily ever after with the dog (thank goodness!) I'm warning you, in a few weeks, you'll be staring at blog post after blog post of photos from my second visit to Australia. I know, there's nothing worse than going through somebody else's vacation photos, but I promise to restrain myself from going overboard!

Here are some photos from my 2007 trip:
