Building and Branding a Business

So I've been a little MIA from the blog lately, more so than usual if you operate by my sister's standards. This is for two reasons: 1: a weeklong vacation in the suburbs of Boston removed from computers, internet, and for the most part, my cell phone; and 2: my own worst enemy, my self-doubt. You see, I am taking the steps to build a brand: myself as a photographer and event graphic designer. I edit my own ideas much too harshly, leaving the blog stale and quickly outdated amongst the updated-daily-photofabulous-blogs. And what do I love most about these photofabulous blogs? The personality. The honesty. The bluntness. The sagas of their misates. The in-your-face-this-is-who-I-am-as-a-photographer dialogue. I know who I want to be as a photographer and designer, and while I realize that it will take awhile to achieve such a status, it has taken me too long to accept where I am in the process= right here. Learning. Watching. Messing up. Having fun.

Long story short, my blog will now be a reflection of who I am right now, not just who I want to be. It is my goal that readers will have a better understanding of who I am, what I'm like, and hopefully the joy I get from being behind the camera and from being creative with the ideas I put on paper with my designs. The point is to have fun and not take myself too seriously! My favorite inspirational quote of the moment is from Henry C. Link, "While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, another is busy making mistakes and becoming superior.” I plan on sharing my journey and process as I build this dream and work towards this goal, one step at a time.

Another reason for the stale blog: I've spent a lot of time thinking and researching the past few weeks, about building and branding my business. I successfully filed my business name, opened up a business banking account, and sketched a few new ideas for my website, logo, and blog. (Don't hold your breath, these will be a long-time coming!)

But I was busy creating a little self-promotion lately. I designed small soft-cover portfolio booklets to send out to a few wedding industry vendors that I've met recently. I wanted to reach out to remind them who I am and what I have to offer. I also handmade cards with my logo and a pocket to stash a few business cards in the back.

I designed the pages of the book myself, and published the book through Picaboo : www.picaboo.com

Hi Kelly! Thanks so much for sending me your promo items! I am so happy for you and just adore your work! I know you will be a huge success. I love, most of all, your honesty about yourself and your work! If there is anything I can do to help you please let me know. I have an area in the studio to display business cards and I'll include yours there. Feel free to send me more cards or promo items to display anytime!
